NBA 2K15 Review Roundup

The latest entry in the annual NBA 2K series, NBA 2K15, has arrived in stores. As usual, it's among the best-looking games you'll find on any platform, but how well does it play after another year of refinement by Visual Concepts?

Many of the new features 2K has been talking about in the lead up to the game's release don't involve the on-court action. Yes, there are better graphics, new animations, and improved mechanics, but there's also the in-game TV show 2K TV; a pre-game show featuring Shaquille O'Neal; authentic dance routines; real players' voices in the career mode; and a way to scan your face into the game--though this doesn't always work especially well.

We've gathered up a sampling of the first reviews for 2K15 for you below. For more, check out GameSpot sister site Metacritic.

GameSpot -- 9/10

"NBA 2K15 isn't as drastic a visual update as last year's next-generation debut. Your friend sitting on the couch might not drool over the visual updates or expanded feature set, but the overhauled control scheme and helpful shot meter are the types of improvements basketball fans have been waiting for. Battling for space and effectively using a screen to set up a wide-open jumper is superbly satisfying, and while it can be a struggle to keep up on defense, the interaction between all 10 men on the court at any time has never looked or felt this real." - Josiah Renaudin [Full review]

USA Today -- 9/10

"Sports video games are often criticized as $60 roster updates, but NBA 2K15 is a meaningful step forward for the franchise, and there’s enough new content here to please even the most hardcore 2K fans. Even if you only like basketball a little, if you have a next-gen console, you should play NBA 2K15." - Nick Schwartz [Full review]

CBS Sports

"Overall, NBA 2K15 is another win for 2K Sports and you can really see where the future of NBA gaming is headed. They have things to fix but it's a fluid process that will get better each year because the customers demand it. They've set the bar for the industry, which means they are their own competition. To get fans to buy a new $60 game each season means it has to be more than a roster update." - Zach Harper [Full review]

Hardcore Gamer -- 4/5

"The NBA 2K series continues to deliver the best professional basketball experience available on consoles and PCs. Though some strange visual bugs might rub a bit of shine off of an otherwise excellent package, there’s no denying how well NBA 2K15 plays. No game mode seems like it doesn’t belong, as every player should be able to find something that he or she adores. By improving both the shooting system and the RPG-esque MyPlayer mode, NBA 2K15 has taken the next step towards becoming the ideal sports game. You may not ever be able to run pick-and-rolls with Anthony Davis in real life, but you’re closer now than ever before." - Matt Whittaker [Full review]
