Follow the History of the Black Panther Pt. 32

For 50 years, the Black Panther has stood at the forefront on the Marvel Universe. As we count down to a vision of T’Challa on the big screen coming soon, take a look back at five decades’ worth of comic book adventures…

Captured on a planet populated by Skrulls posing as 1930’s Earth gangsters in BLACK PANTHER #32, T’Challa, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm placed their hopes in Storm to rescue them. She discovered in BLACK PANTHER #33 that one-half of that world featured shapeshifters obsessed with Earth’s 1960’s civil rights movement, and returned to rescue the Panther and his allies in BLACK PANTHER #34.

Upon returning to Earth, Black Panther witnessed the final defeat of The Hulk by the Sentry and Tony Stark in WORLD WAR HULK #5, and found his sister Shuri and friend Monica Rambeau kidnapped by Erik Killmonger in BLACK PANTHER #35. The king of Wakanda made plans to invade neighboring Niganda to rescue the women in BLACK PANTHER #36.

Once in Niganda, T’Challa entered into mortal combat with Killmonger in BLACK PANTHER #37, while his Wakandan forces moved to rescue Shuri and Monica. Upon spotting the Panther felled by his foe and about to be executed in BLACK PANTHER #38, Rambeau used her energy powers to zap Killmonger dead.

During Secret Invasion, the shape-shifting Skrulls invaded Wakanda to seize its precious vibranium stores in BLACK PANTHER #39, but T’Challa rooted out all spies in his midst before being confronted with the awesome Super-Skrull.

The Panther fought and defeated The Super-Skrull in BLACK PANTHER #40, though he found himself faced with two more soon after. A traitor close to him spoiled the moment, leading to T’Challa’s capture by the invaders. He managed a clever turnaround of the situation in BLACK PANTHER #41, allowing him and his people victory over their alien opponents.

Unleash the Beasts: Monstrom

With so many classic creatures on the loose in Monsters Unleashed, we turn to their earlier adventures thanks to Marvel Unlimited.

The next Jack Kirby-Stan Lee creation we’ll look at sprang from their inimitable brains in 1960’s TALES TO ASTONISH #11. This one, dubbed Monstrom, was just minding its own business a thousand years ago when it sank into what would become the Bayou’s Black Swamp. Cut to modern times—by which we mean 1960, of course—and a novelist named John from up north moved his family to the edge of the very same Black Swamp in order to absorb some “local color” and work on his next book much to the chagrin of the locals.

One day, John and his wife Sara realized that their son Billy had wandered out of earshot, so the writer took his gun and headed into the swamp. After he finally stumbled upon the boy, they both came face to face with the recently returned Monstrom!

The creature not only took a blast from John’s shotgun without slowing down, but also easily wrestled away an alligator that chomped on its leg. Still, John and Billy had enough time to get Sara and hop in the car, racing away just as Monstrom’s enormous orange foot came crashing down where the vehicle had stalled a moment before.

Racing into town, John tried explaining the beast to the sheriff, but they didn’t believe him until a local man came running up talking about a similar creature. They set up a barricade, but Monstrom easily stomped his way through.

The situation looked hopeless until a stray lightning bolt took out some nearby power lines and the creature violently reacted to the resulting fire. Lighting torches, John and the townspeople chased Monstrom back towards the murky waters from which it rose and it returned to its state of underwater sleep.

In the last panel, John imagined that the creature returned to the water so that it could come out at a later date when humanity might be able to not only understand it, but also help it rebuild its spaceship. Until that day, Monstrom will simply wait and wonder when people will advance to a place of compassion and intelligence not yet reached.

Googam, son of Goom, follows in his father’s footsteps as the younger alien plots and plans to enslave humanity!

Google Home just caught up with Amazon Echo in one key area

Google Home just caught up with Amazon Echo in one key area

While Google's Home is every bit as powerful and intelligent as Amazon's Echo on many fronts, there are a few areas where it doesn't quite stack up. On Thursday though, Google brought the Home one step closer to the Echo by adding shopping functionality to Google Assistant -- the AI that powers Google Home.

"Starting today, you can shop for your everyday essentials—from paper towels to vitamins," Google revealed in a blog post on Wednesday. You'll be able to order from participating Google Express retailers, including Costco, Whole Foods Market, Walgreens, PetSmart, Bed Bath & Beyond and more than 50 other national and locally available retailers [which you can see in the link above]."

All you have to do to start shopping is say "Ok Google, how do I shop?" at which point Google Assistant will explain how the process works. You can also just jump straight into shopping by saying something like "Ok Google, order paper towels." Google Assistant will verify the command and order the product.

Additionally, from now until April 30th, 2017, Google won't charge you for any service or membership fees. If you want to take advantage of this limited-time offer, head to the "More settings" section of the Google Home app, tap "Payments" and set your default credit card and shipping address. You can check out more detailed instructions on the set-up process on Google's support website.

Google says that this is "just the beginning of what's possible for shopping with the Google Assistant." Purchases will be enabled in more apps and services "over the coming months."
