Despite Seinfeld's status as one of the best shows of all time, the hit comedy sitcom that in some ways defined TV in the '90s has never been released on Blu-ray. That's finally changing and just in time for the holidays, too. To celebrate the show's 35th anniversary, Seinfeld: The Complete Series releases on 4K Blu-ray and standard 1080p Blu-ray on December 17. Both Seinfeld box sets are available to preorder now, with the 4K Blu-ray priced at $250 and the standard Blu-ray set listed for $150 on Amazon. These Seinfeld box sets are bound to be popular, so if you're interested in picking one up--and especially if you're buying it as a Christmas or Festivus gift--it's probably a good idea to secure a preorder to ensure you get it in time to place it under the tree.
This collection brings Seinfeld's complete nine-season run to 4K Blu-ray for the first time. All 180 episodes have been remastered for this 24-disc box set, including favorites like "The Puffy Shirt," "The Chinese Restaurant," and "The Opposite." A list of bonus features is not readily available, though we’d expect it to contain the usual assortment of behind-the-scenes footage, cast interviews, and bloopers.
Seinfeld's 4K Blu-ray collection is priced at $250, which sounds high, but this is typically the going rate for a TV series of this size on 4K Blu-ray. The popular series Friends released on 4K Blu-ray last month with the same list price, but it was discounted ahead of launch. With Amazon's preorder price guarantee, you'll automatically get the best price offered for Seinfeld's 4K collection until release, and Amazon won't charge you until your order ships.
With release-day delivery available, you'll have enough time to wrap the box set before exchanging Festivus gifts on December 23.
Seinfeld: The Complete Series is also being remastered in 1080p. The HD Blu-ray box set releases the same day for $150. If you don't mind opting for the HD remaster, you can potentially save $100 over the 4K edition. We say "potentially" because Amazon's preorder price guarantee is in effect for this release, too, so the $150 price it's currently at isn't necessarily final.
Seinfeld has been available on DVD for years, which isn't surprising since the show originally aired in standard definition before the HD and 4K TV eras. You can get Seinfeld: The Complete Series on DVD for $72 (was $120) at Amazon.
If you’re a fan of Seinfeld, you’ll no doubt enjoy Curb Your Enthusiasm. Created by Larry David, the co-creator of Seinfeld, it features similar style of humor and wit, but since it aired on HBO, it has more of an edge. There's a lot more cursing and adult humor in Curb than is allowed on a network TV show like Seinfeld.
Curb Your Enthusiasm debuted in 2000, two years after Seinfeld wrapped, and ran for 12 seasons before its series finale aired earlier this year. You can stream Curb on Max, or you can pick up the newly released Curb Your Enthusiasm: Complete Series box set for $133 (was $165). Unfortunately, this is a 24-disc DVD collection, but we imagine Curb will eventually find its way to Blu-ray, too.
