We can't deny that Kidz Bop -- aka that borderline creepy album series where children cover pop songs -- serves a necessary purpose. On the other hand, sometimes NSFW, purposefully dirty pop songs are too much for younger ears (as evidenced by this horror story about "Thrift Shop" from "The Daily Show"'s Al Madrigal), and should just be left alone. Like, do you want to be the one to explain that R. Kelly lyric to a 6-year-old?? (Unless they've been watching "Chappelle's Show"?) Guess changing that line to "Probably should of washed this/ smells like my baseball cleats" was a good call...
Um, but then again, Kidz Bop isn't always successful with its reworked lyrics. I mean, can you really not say "pop some tags" on Kidz Bop? If something else was being popped, we'd totally get it. But do they really need to say "rock some tags"??
Listen to the Kidz Bop cover of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis "Thrift Shop," and see more of our reaction GIFs after the jump.
This little tyke is probably one of the hardcore rhymers spitting on the track.
Featured on the upcoming Kidz Bop 24, the Children Of The Corn choir try their hand at covering Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' frugality-themed megahit, and yes, they fall a bit short (no pun intended), but hey, it's hard being a kid rapper! Not everyone can match Bow Wow! GIVE THESE GUYS A BREAK! But still, Kidz Bop's "Thrift Shop" rendition is prettyyyy, prettyyyy hilarious and will probably extend the life of "Thrift Shop" by another year or so. Like, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis will probably never need to hit up a Goodwill again. Even for sheets OR cleats.
