Doom, Quake designer has plans for ‘old school’ FPS

id Software cofounder and designer of famous shooters John Romero keen on building new genre project, says it is not Daikatana 2.

id Software cofounder and instrumental designer on seminal shooters Doom, Quake, and Wolfenstein 3D John Romero has plans for an "old school" first-person shooter, the developer has revealed.

Responding to a Twitter question of "Have you given up on making a good old school FPS?" Romero responded, "Definitely not. I have plans…"

Romero did not elaborate further on the point, but in a later tweet, he confirmed that the new project would not be a sequel to 2000 shooter Daikatana.

"There will be no [Daikatana 2]! he said.

Romero has had a busy career since leaving id Software in 1996. Over the years that followed, the developer held high-level positions at Midway, Slipgate Ironworks, Gazillion Entertainment, Monkeystone Games, and Ion Storm. Romero currently serves as CEO and cofounder of Loot Drop, a San Bruno, California- based developer specializing in social and mobile games.

[CORRECTION] An earlier version of this story reported that Romero worked at Ion Games. GameSpot regrets the error.
