Publisher says Xbox 360 accounts for a 47 percent share of the current-generation console market; 19 million Kinect units sold.
Microsoft has announced its Xbox 360 console has achieved life-to-date sales of 67 million units.
Posting on the official Microsoft blog, chief marketing officer of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Division Yusuf Mehdi revealed the 360 has generated more than $56 billion at retail since the console was launched in 2005.
According to the publisher, the 360 accounts for a 47 percent share of the current-generation console market. Microsoft also revealed Kinect for Xbox 360 has reached 19 million units sold to date, while Xbox Live has hit 40 million subscribers. According to Mehdi, Xbox Live subscribers now spend an average of 84 hours per month on the console.
Microsoft also published a graph detailing NPD data showing US console hardware sales; in the graphic, PS3 and Xbox 360 sales are shown to increase, while Nintendo Wii sales are shown to decrease.
The publisher also outlined its plans to use the launch of Windows 8 to help the Xbox 360 become a "premium entertainment service" and grow the console's reach to "hundreds of millions of people worldwide."
In March, Microsoft revealed it would not be announcing any new hardware at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in June. It has, however, been suggested that the next Xbox is currently in development under the code name Durango.
