'The Hunger Games' and 'Bridesmaids' will battle it out in several categories at the MTV Movie Awards, airing this Sunday at 9 p.m. ET.

"The Hunger Games" is a battle to the death, in a world gone mad. But all the archery skills in the world may not save Katniss Everdeen from her most fearsome foes yet: the drunken, surly, vomiting, inappropriate and altogether destructively hilarious women of "Bridesmaids."
Kristen Wiig's blockbuster comedy will do battle with the biggest young adult novel to hit the screen since "Twilight" at this weekend's MTV Movie Awards broadcast live from Universal City, California, on Sunday. Who will win? Who will lose? Who will poop in a sink?
In this epic mash-up duel, we've merged the trailers for these disparate films, united in some sense, of course, by their themes of female empowerment and perseverance (see what we did there?), to remind ourselves of what each movie brings to the table before they battle it out this weekend.
The two movies will fight for the Golden Popcorn in several categories: Best Female Performance (Wiig and Katniss herself, Jennifer Lawrence); Breakthrough Performance (Melissa McCarthy and Liam Hemsworth); Best Cast and the biggest prize of them all, Movie of the Year, which pits both films against "The Help," "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" and "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2."
Two movies enter the Movie Awards arena. One will survive. Sure, Jennifer Lawrence's skills with a weapon have sent many people in search of Groupon discounts for bow-and-arrow lessons. But how about the fierce brutality with which Wiig destroys a table full of desserts? Yes, the folks in "The Hunger Games" are in fear for their very lives, but certainly passengers onboard that flight with the "Bridesmaids" girls were in some danger.
And how could Kristen Wiig not laugh when she sings and swirls in front of her onetime "SNL" castmate Maya Rudolph? Certainly the people who handed over that $169.1 million at the box office laughed their collective butts off. Of course, "The Hunger Games" has already won the box-office race with its $396 million domestic gross. ("The Hunger Games" did, however, cost more than twice as much to produce.)
All will be revealed live on Sunday at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. Punishment for "The Hunger Games" folks, should they lose to "Bridesmaids," should be a month living with the world's most awkward roommate, Gil, played by the outlandishly hilarious English comedian Matt Lucas.
