DICE examining possibility of using Kinect sensor to allow players to peek and lean around corners, speak voice commands.
Battlefield 4 on Xbox One could feature Kinect-powered head-tracking, executive producer Patrick Bach said in a new interview on the Xbox Wire.
He explained that DICE is “looking into” features that “enhance” controls, including using Kinect for peeking and leaning, as well as further head-tracking. This is in addition to using Kinect for voice commands.
In July, DICE general manager Karl Magnus Troedsson said Battlefield 4 would use Kinect on Xbox One only “where it will make sense.”
“We have a pretty pragmatic view [on Kinect],” Magnus Troedsson said at the time. “Instead of just trying to tick all the boxes of features you can do with new hardware, we look at what actually adds value [for] our players.”
Also in the Xbox Wire interview, Bach confirmed that Battlefield 4 on Xbox One will support 64 players and run at 60 frames-per-second. “This is a big deal for us because it’s always something we’ve wanted to deliver but we couldn’t do it without taking away from the core ‘Battlefield’ experience,” he said.
Battlefield 4 launches on October 29 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The PlayStation 4 version arrives on November 12, while the Xbox One iteration hits November 19.
A current-generation console and PC multiplayer beta for Battlefield 4 begins on October 1.
