The summer of extinction is almost upon us and that means we can officially start talking about Transformers 4: Age of Extinction.   The Hasbro T4:AoE figures are not officially in stores until May 17th (there are reports of some stores breaking the street date) but the gang at Hasbro PR were kind enough to send along some samples of different classes of Transformer from the highly anticipated film and toy line.

If you can’t wait until May 17th to walk into stores and buy the figures then you will be happy to hear Hasbro’s announcement that Monday, May 12th is CYBERTRON MONDAY, the official day when Transformers: Age of Extinction toys will go on sale at online retailers. The landing page www.cybertronmonday.com is live NOW with more information about the event.

As part of Cybertron Monday, Hasbro is letting U.S. fans sign up to receive a voicemail message from Optimus Prime reminding them when toys are available on May 12th. Fans can text TRANSFORMERS to 38470 to sign up.

Finally, we wanted to give you a heads up that the official Transformers: Age of Extinction app will be releasing at approximately midnight tonight on both the iTunes App Store and Google Play, for iOS and Android, respectively.

That’s a whole lot of information that is more than meets the eye!

But before we get to our look here’s the official announcement:

I’m a Gen 1 Transformers fan so it’s been awhile since I bought and transformed a figure from the movie universe.   It was a little tricky at first, they are so pointy! But once I figured it out it was like riding a bicycle.   The initial intimidating factor for me is that for the bigger class of figures (18 or more moves) come with instruction that only detail the transformation from vehicle/beast mode TO robot mode. Only problem is that the figure ship in robot form, so the first time you transform them you are reading the instructions backwards.   The smaller classes (16 moves or less) have double sided instructions that show the transformation from both directions.

Transformers Age of Extinction Generations Leader Class Optimus Prime Figure

T4OptimusPrimeFt1

Prime is the largest and most complex of the figures that I received. He is considered “Leader” class. As we have seen from the previews Prime will have 2 different vehicle modes in the movie, one his flat cab more Gen 1 look (YEAH!!) and also the look we’ve become familiar with in the movies, with the blue cab with red flames. The head on Prime is more of the classic look with the face cover instead of robo-lips. There is a bit of vac-metalizing on the figure that really pops. He comes with the sword of Judgment and his vector shield.

Optimus Prime has long believed that freedom is the right of all sentient beings. He has never wavered from his belief, no matter what has befallen him in battle. Once again ready to defend the people of his adopted planet, the unyielding Autobot Commander prepares for the battle that will allow the Autobots to reclaim their role as Earth’s honored protectors.
Convert, arm and attack with all the Transformers action you can handle! This mighty Optimus Prime figure is a high-powered commander whether he’s in robot mode or semitruck mode. With his Sword of Judgement in one fist and his Vector Shield on his arm, he’s ready to take down any foe in robot mode. When he converts to semi truck mode, he’ll plow through enemy forces and keep on going! Keep converting him back and forth so he can handle whatever his foes dish out!

Transformers Age of Extinction Generations Voyager Class Grimlock Figure

TF4GrimLFt

With the inclusion of Grimlock in the films we are seeing the first appearance of the Dinobots on the silver screen.  There seems to be a significant Chinese and  Japanese influence in this 4th installment and Grimlock has been re-imagined as a hybrid of a  T-Rex and a Chinese dragon.   He comes with a big hammer staff that can also be added to his tail when he’s in dino mode.  Traditionally Grimlock carried a big sword as hid weapon of choice so I will be curious to see what he actually wields in the film.

He has battled countless enemies across the universe, never concerning himself with trophies, only victories. He has proven difficult to capture and nearly impossible to defeat. When an enemy does manage to get the best of him, it’s never for long. Un-caged and unleashed, Grimlock is concerned with only one thing: vengeance against those who would try to control him.
Convert, arm and attack with all the Transformers action you can handle! This Grimlock figure is a high-powered fighter whether he’s in robot mode or dino mode. With his Dragontooth Mace in his fist, he’s a spiky danger to any enemy in robot mode. When he converts to T-rex mode, he’ll stomp any enemy flat! Keep converting him back and forth so he can handle whatever his foes dish out!

Transformers Age of Extinction Generations Deluxe Class Autobot Drift Figure

 TF4DriftFt

Drift is one of the new Autobots in Transformers: Age of Extinction. Like his IDW Comics incarnation, Drift was formerly a Decepticon. His alternate mode has been revealed to be a 2013 Bugatti Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse instead of a Nissan Silvia S15 as he was in the comics.  In the film, it is reported that he will be voiced by Japanese actor Ken Watanabe.   They really play up the samurai angle of his character in his new design with his head and the appearance of armor in his robot mode.

Autobot Drift used to fight for the Decepticons. Now, he wields his swords against them, alongside the heroic Autobots!
Convert, arm and attack with all the Transformers action you can handle! This Autobot Drift figure is a high-powered fighter whether he’s in robot mode or Bugatti mode. With a sword in each hand, he’ll be a match for any enemy in robot mode. And when he converts to super-fast Volkswagen Bugatti mode, no enemy can hope to escape him! Keep converting him back and forth so he can handle whatever his foes dish out!

Transformers Age of Extinction Generations Deluxe Class Dinobot Slug Figure

 TF4SlugFt

Sludge was one of the original Dinobots back in Gen 1.   He was slow, but powerful and transformed from robot to a triceratops.   He’s still a triceratops in his Age of Extinction incarnation, but now he has a new purple and red paint job and he’s been run through the Michael Bay “Pointy-fier” machine.   He does come with two large, rubbery swords that he can hold in robot-mode of can be attached in dino-mode.

This fiery warrior hates taking order, unless it means he gets to destroy something. He’ll level anything in his path with a fit of white-hot dino rage.
