Layoffs at Electronic Arts Montreal, BioWare Unaffected

Electronic Arts has laid off a number of employees from its Canadian studio based in Montreal, Quebec, the games company has confirmed to GameSpot.

The studio, which first opened its doors in 2004, has worked on games like SSX on Tour, Army of Two, and Need for Speed: Nitro.

"We made a staffing change in our Montreal studio to align with our current development and service plans." EA said in a statement. "A small number of employees were impacted, and we are working closely with each of them to ensure the best transition possible. The teams at EA Montreal, including BioWare, are working on exciting new projects, and EA is committed to developing great games in our Montreal studio."

According to Gamasutra, the layoffs will mainly impact EA Mobile.

Almost exactly a year ago, EA announced that it was shutting down Salt Lake City, Utah office as it shifts to mobile development.
