New Video: Lana Del Rey, ‘Ride’

Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey sees America in "Ride."

Want to take a "Ride" with Lana Del Rey? Better strap in. Her epic 10-minute mini-movie for the track finds her hitting the open road with a biker gang, her pop career behind her -- "I was a singer, not a very popular one," she says in a voice-over. You're too humble, girl! The film opens with Del Rey, a vision of '80s jean-short Americana, swinging across the screen on a tire. "I was in the winter of my life, and the men I met along the road were my only summer," she says, before 10 minutes of cuddling up to a lucky selection of biker bros.

The song kicks off over more than 3 minutes in, embracing the escapism. "Just ride," she sings in the chorus, as she launches fireworks and grips a gun. Even after driving for miles on a Harley, she still doesn't have a hair out of place -- respect to Lana's curls game.

"Ride" is about an older America, the rough-and-tumble world of films such as "Easy Rider" and Old Hollywood glamour -- as well as a modern pop star idea that artists from Lady Gaga to Nicki Minaj sing about. "I am f***ing crazy," she says in the outro. "But I am free." "Ride" will be on Del Rey's extended Paradise edition of Born to Die, due Nov. 13. Be right back, we have a bike to order.
