This past weekend I had the privilege of visiting the EMP Museum in Seattle, I was very much looking forward to checking out the museum to see the Smithsonian traveling exhibit, “Star Wars: Power of the Costume”. Although the Star Wars stuff was the draw, I was excited to see what else the Museum had to offer and it didn’t disappoint. They are a great pop culture museum, and it’s worth a visit Star Wars or not.
The Museum itself is in the heart of Seattle, right next to the Skyneedle, and has a beautiful Frank Gehry design. I can’t stress enough how fun of a museum experience it is. Before I gush more about the museum or even get into the exhibit, while they had a defined area for the Star Wars stuff, they did have some of the costumes outside of the exhibit itself. Like this Boba & Jango Fett display:
And these robes:
As you enter the exhibit you are greeted with these stairs that look like you’re walking in hyperdrive:
Then you’re greeted with a Yoda puppet that was used for rehearsals (can somebody please make this as a plush?):
The exhibit is separated into two floors, it almost seems broken up chronologically with a lot of the prequel stuff being on the first floor and the OT stuff was on the second floor. Here is all of the first floor stuff, be warned, there is a lot of Padme costumes….
My favorite part of the first floor was Jedi Luke’s costume, easily my favorite Star Wars outfit. To this day I’m still jealous of a friend of mine that faithfully recreated the costume in elementary school. Like I said the second floor is mostly Original Trilogy stuff but much smaller than the first floor:
If you’re going to be in the Seattle area in the next couple of weeks I highly recommend checking out this exhibit, if only to see the EMP Museum itself. The “Power of the Costume” exhibit will be touring, the next city has yet to be announced but it could be in a galaxy near you….
Special thanks to Caroline at the EMP Museum!
