For the past 365 days my dear friend “Cantina” Danny Neumann has been taking collectors and fans on the most wonderous journey and making us all rethink what it means to “play with your toys” with a project called At Home With The Super Neumanns. As an extension of his incredible action figure photography, last year at this time Danny embarked on an ambitious photo-a-day-for-a-year project that started with the simple idea of “what do super heroes do when they aren’t saving the world” that morphed into a funny, charming, semi-autobiographical single panel comic strip using custom action figures of Superman and Lois Lane.
Super Neumanns Day 1 – Move in day.
This morning the last photo, number 365, will be posted and the project will be complete. The story Danny set out to tell will have been told. I sat down with Danny last night, on the eve of completion to have a conversation about what he learned, what he sacrificed over the year, the nature of creativity, what he’d like to see happen with the project going forward and if the Super Neumanns could ever return.
Behind the scenes – Danny takes the final shot #365.
