CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths is almost here!

A crisis is coming …

I’ve been reading comics since 1978. The first issue of Justice League I read was #148, part 2 of a 3 way crossover between the Justice League, the Justice Society and the Legion of Super-Heroes. It introduced me to 2 alternate Earths and 2 different time periods.

Fast forward to 1985. As part of DC comics 50th anniversary, they produced a story called Crisis on Infinite Earths which covered the action across at least a half dozen earths and various time periods as well.

7 Years ago, the CW launched a series called Arrow, following the adventures of one Oliver Queen, who would become the Green Arrow. That led to the creation of shows for The Flash, Supergirl, Black Lightning, and this year, Batwoman. Flash introduced parallel earths.  Supergirl takes place on one such earth, Earth 38.  We’ve been to at least Earth 2, 3, 19, and 53.  There is also a show called Legends of Tomorrow which covers the adventures of a team of lesser known heroes who were introduced in Arrow and Flash that travel through time. But none of this would have been possible without the 10 year success of Arrows predecessor, Smallville.

Now in Arrows 8th (and final) season, the show runners behind the CWs heroic shows have pulled out all the stops. There have been cross-overs between the shows before. It has become an annual thing. But this is bigger. Spanning 5 episodes, this crosses not inly just their 6 shows, but it reaches out to pull in a Who’s who cast of actors reprising roles from other Super-Hero shows. Tom Welling and Erica Durance from Smallville will reprise their roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane. Brandon Routh, who played Superman in Superman Returns will be there as an older version of Superman. Ashley Scott will be there, as the Huntress whom she played in Birds of Prey tv series of 2002. John wesley Shipp is back in his role as the Flash from the 1990 Flash series. To me, the biggest surprise guest is Kevin Conroy, who never suited up in live action, but has been the voice of Animated Batman over the years, will appear as an older Bruce Wayne. Finally, Burt Ward, from the Batman TV show of the late 60’s is confirmed in some capacity. Maybe I should not say “finally”, as there may be more I have not heard of.

Crisis starts with Batwoman on Sunday Dec 8th, followed immediately by Supergirl at 9pm. Black Lightning’s show on Monday is not directly connected, but I would not miss it either. Part 3 is the Flash at 8 pm on Tuesday. Then we have to wait until January 14 for Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow to bring us parts 4 and 5.

I just finished watching the latest episode of Arrow a few minutes ago and I cannot wait for this to begin.
