In 2020, Disney+ smash hit show The Mandalorian snatched the dubious honor of "most pirated TV show" away from Game of Thrones based on BitTorrent traffic alone. According to TorrentFreak, a publication dedicated to file sharing news, although BitTorrent activity "only makes up a small portion of the piracy landscape," the Star Wars spin-off series has handily topped the list of most downloaded TV shows last year--however, no numbers were released. It isn't exactly a shock that Game of Thrones doesn't appear even among the top 10 illegally downloaded shows last year--just like the series, its reign in this category came to an end. (It was at the very top back in 2019.) However, TorrentFreak does note that The Mandalorian was in close contention last year, barely beating out Prime Video's The Boys (which placed second on the list) and HBO's Westworld (which placed third). The full reported list is below. - The Mandalorian” (Disney+)
- The Boys (Amazon Prime Video)
- Westworld (HBO)
- Vikings (History Channel)
- Star Trek: Picard (CBS All Access)
- Rick and Morty (Adult Swim)
- The Walking Dead (AMC)
- The Outsider (HBO)
- Arrow (The CW)
- The Flash (The CW)
While Disney+ is probably hardly thrilled about this distinction, as the lack of numbers here indicate--it and other streaming services on the list should take solace in the fact that many popular streaming sites and services (including the illegal ones) generally do not report its viewing statistics and figures.
