Arrow kicked off the CW's sprawling universe of superheroes, but bow-wielding vigilantes will not carry the torch forward. The network has decided not to move forward with its Green Arrow and the Canaries spinoff, according to reports from Deadline and Variety. Throughout Arrow's seventh and eighth seasons, actress Katherine McNamara starred as Mia Smoak, the future daughter of characters Oliver Queen and Felicity Smoak. Her character began life in a version of Star City set in 2040, but the run up to the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover brought her into the modern day, where she met and worked with her father before the Crisis event ultimately took his life and brought the Arrow series to an end in its eighth season. Before the show ended, though, the CW gave us a backdoor pilot for a potential spinoff titled Green Arrow & The Canaries. The episode was set back in 2040, and featured McNamara as Mia Smoak, and brought over Katie Kassidy's Laurel Lance and Juliana Harkavy's Dinah Drake, two of the Canary heroes who appeared throughout Arrow's run.
