DC brawler Injustice knocked to second place, while Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen debuts in third.
Dead Island: Riptide has shuffled its way to first place in the UK charts, yet failed to sell even half as many copies in its opening weekend as its predecessor did in 2010.
Three percent of the game's total sales also came from the controversial Zombie Bait Edition of the game, which features a resin statue of a bloodied female torso.
Last week's king of the charts, DC Comics fighter Injustice: Gods Among Us, is beaten to second place.
Capcom's Dragon's Dogma relaunch, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, lands in third place. Meanwhile, Namco Bandai's licensed Strek Trek tie-in warps into fourth.
Tomb Raider slips another spot to fifth, while BioShock Infinite drops four spots to sixth.
The fourth new entry in the top 10 this week is 3DS exclusive LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins, which debuts in eighth. It's behind FIFA 13, which is seventh.
