"We felt that 15 years of GT was an event worth celebrating," says Sony.
Sony has confirmed that Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi will reveal the future of the series during an event taking place at the UK's Silverstone racing circuit on May 15.
While Sony is not saying whether Polyphony Digital has been working on Gran Turismo 6, SCEE senior vice president Michael Denny name-dropped the title as a PlayStation 3 game in an interview earlier this year.
The event, designed to commemorate the 15th anniversary of Sony's flagship driving simulator, will be attended by car manufacturers Nissan, Audi, BMW, Ford, Honda, Jaguar, KTM, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, and Toyota.
"The Gran Turismo franchise continues to be extremely important to PlayStation," explained Sony Computer Entertainment Europe president Jim Ryan. "We felt that 15 years of GT was an event worth celebrating along with our colleagues from the Americas, Asia, and Japan."
"As well as experiencing the development of the franchise and comparing the virtual and real, it will be a pleasure to see Yamauchi-san and hear what's next for Gran Turismo," added Ryan.
The Silverstone circuit has never actually featured in a Gran Turismo to date, but GTPlanet reported in September 2012 that Polyphony Digital staff have visited the track several times to take photographs and scans.
