Sony trademarks ‘Greatness Awaits’

New filing reportedly related to marketing slogan for PlayStation 4.

Sony has filed a trademark application for "Greatness Awaits," lending credence to last week's report suggesting this would be the marketing slogan used to promote the PlayStation 4.

Siliconera spotted the trademark application, filed May 9 with the United States Patent & Trademark Office. It covers various game-related goods and services, including consoles and software, among other things.

A Sony representative was not immediately available to comment.

Siliconera last week obtained a leaked advertisement for the PS4, which revealed the "Greatness Awaits" slogan for the first time.

"Who are you to be a slave to the past? You who can travel time like the oceans and rewrite history with a single word," utters a man in the advertisement.

"Who are you to deny greatness? If you would deny it to yourself, you deny it to the entire world."

The PS4 will be released later this year, though Sony has yet to provide region-specific availability information or pricing details. A past report pegs the platform to launch in November beginning at $430.
