Molyneux says Curiosity prize is only temporary

Molyneux says Curiosity winner's role as main Godus deity won't last forever, though the "grace period" is still being decided.

Godus' virtual god of gods, announced as Curiosity winner Bryan Henderson, won't get to reign over 22 Cans' upcoming god sim indefinitely, studio boss Peter Molyneux has confirmed.

Henderson chipped off the last cubelet from the Curiosity cube on Monday, unearthing a pre-recorded message from Peter Molyneux and the prize of digital godhood in 22 Cans' upcoming simulation Godus. Henderson will also receive an undisclosed portion of the game's funds.

But Henderson won't get to reign over Godus forever. "It didn't seem right to me that Bryan would be god of gods for all time," said Molyneux to Rock Paper Shotgun. "It seems right to me that he has a period of time to be god of gods, and that can't just be a few days. It needs to be substantial. And in that time, many things could happen. And of course, the amount of physical money he gets depends on how successful the game is."

Clarifying the situation further, Molyneux added that "what Bryan has won is a grace period where he can be god of gods for a certain amount of time."

When Henderson's tenure as Godus' god is up the game will allow him to be usurped by another player, who will then take his powers. "We–re talking about that period of time [right now]," he said. "It won–t be less than a few months. It might not be more than a year. And then we–ll unveil the ability to usurp the god of gods and replace him with someone else. That someone else will then take on all of Bryan–s powers.–

Molyneux also added that Henderson's upcoming godly powers aren't infinite, and that they need to be vetted through developer 22 Cans first. Molyneux said those powers "aren't going to be is carte blanche uncontrolled, unrefined decisions that would throw the balance of the game out entirely."

"Bryan can absolutely request something to happen, and we'll make our best effort to do it. But he can't decide everybody in Canada will explode or anything like that. There are limits to his power."
