New Song: Justin Timberlake, ‘Take Back The Night’

Justin Timberlake channels Michael Jackson in a deep way on "Take Back The Night."

Justin Timberlake initially drew Michael Jackson comparisons back in the day -- the early aughts, to be exact. (Remember his *NSYNC/"Dirty Pop" dance breakdown? Or ALL of Justified? Or the fact that "Rock Your Body" was originally written for Jackson?) Well, at the time, it was kinda like, "Solo Justin Timberlake is amazing, but are we sure we're comfortable with him straight copying the one and only MJ???" Well, Justin moonwalked through that criticism 10-ish years ago, and now it looks like he's doing it again, this time in the form of his brand-new King Of Pop track, "Take Back The Night."

The first single from his upcoming second installment of The 20/20 Experience, out Sept. 30, "Take Back The Night" is more Michael Jackson-sounding than 10,000 disco balls spinning over a bell-bottomed John Travolta dancing on a multicolored dance floor while "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough" plays on repeat in 1979. Not that it's a bad thing -- we fully embrace Justin's horn-laced, disco-inspired new cut. It's an absurdly danceable pop 'n' funk jam that should definitely go in the same playlist as Bruno Mars' "Treasure" and Daft Punk's "Get Lucky." Even his lyrics bring forth images of spinning mirrorballs and steamy dance halls: "Take back the night/ Come on, use me up until there’s nothing left/ Take back the night/ Dizzy, spinning, sweating, you can’t catch your breath." Don't mind if we do, Justin. Hope you've got some NOT Durex/Daft Punk rubbers in that powder-blue tux pocket!
