The Super Mario Bros. Movie’s Streaming Release Appears To Be Next Week

The Super Mario Bros. Movie just launched in theaters last month, but it looks like it’ll be heading to home theaters sooner than expected. Thanks to a since-deleted post by Optimum TV, it appears The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be heading to select video-on-demand services on May 16--and Amazon preorders are already open. Amazon had previously listed a May home release date, too, though we're still waiting for official confirmation from Universal or Nintendo.

Amazon preorders are listed for $30 regardless of format (UHD, HD, SD), and currently no rental options exist. However, Peacock will likely have the film available by August, as all Universal movies are added to the streaming service within four months of their theatrical debut. But if you’re looking to snag the movie for your home theater as soon as it becomes available, be sure to check out Amazon’s movie page.

It should come as no surprise, but The Super Mario Bros. Movie broke several records within weeks of hitting theaters, which includes passing $1 billion in sales and claiming the title of highest-grossing video game movie of all time. However, reviews for the movie were mixed, with its Metacritic score sitting at just 46. But despite paltry critic reviews, the film was an absolute hit with moviegoers, earning an 8.6 user score on Metacritic.
