Listen to TWO new Backstreet Boys songs. PRAISE!
In preparation for their "comeback" album (sort of -- BSB have had many comebacks over the years), In A World Like This, out July 30, the Backstreet Boys have been on a smash-releasing spree. We've heard "In A World Like This," "One Phone Call" (kind of like the older brother to their epic "The Call"), and now the bros have released two brand-new jams: The first, "Breath," is inspired by the 2011 sensitive-guy action flick "Drive," and the second, "Show 'Em (What You're Made Of)," is an ode to their kids. #AW
Listen to the Backstreet Boys' "Breathe" and "Show 'Em (What You're Made Of)" after the jump.
Truth be told, it was hard not to be inspired by the Ryan Gosling-led "Drive." For us, seeing Ryan's macho bravado on screen inspired us to tell our at-the-time boyf to "man the eff up," and if you were a dude watching the film, we feel like you immediately wanted, no, NEEDED a satin bomber jacket. But for BSB, "Drive" totally inspired their new record "Breathe." (Not pointing any fingers, but something tells us that was AJ's idea.)
Set to a dark (for BSB, anyway), eerie track, "Breath" features a muted, pulsating synth, while the chorus swells like a proper pop record: "Your words are a symphony/ Music it sings to me/ No I can't breathe/ I can't breathe." About "Breathe," selfie master Howie Dorough revealed to Billboard, "A.J. [McLean] was watching the movie 'Drive,' and the music kind of has that dark, mysterious feel to it [...] He came to me, and I had just recently seen that movie, and I loved the idea. He started off with the melody for the chorus, and then I came to him and started putting feeling into the words… It's a great song." (HA, WE KNEW AJ WAS BEHIND THIS!!)
Next up we've got "Show 'Em (What You're Made Of)," a song dedicated to the bros' kids!! To which we say, "AWW" and "OMG members of BSB have kids??" Set to a surging, twinkling pop track, the guys sing about their mini-BSB tots: "Find the truth/ In a child's eyes/ When the only limit is the sky /Living proof, I see myself in you." Um, cue us ruining our waterproof mascara application and counting down the days until THE BEST BOY BAND'S new album is out. And, by the way, the answer to that would be FIVE DAYS.
