1980s Toys Up for Bid in $9.99 Hakes Auction Ending May 22

The 1980s was a great time for action figures – just look at all of the revamps that are out there today — but tracking the vintage figures down now can cost you a pretty penny. Luckily, Hake’s Auctions is holding a $9.99 auction, where everything starts at ten bucks. Sure, some of the items have already been bid up into the hundreds (a few into the thousands!), but you can still get some great toys for a steal if you move quick. The auction ends May 22, so check out some of the standouts below, and then search the site for your favorite toy lines!

STAR WARS: RETURN OF THE JEDI (1983) – ADMIRAL ACKBAR 65 BACK-A CARDED ACTION FIGURE (CUT BLISTER). (hakes.com)

Sure, there are a lot of REALLY valuable Star Wars figures in this auction, including your Jawas with vinyl capes and your Yak Faces with coins, but sometimes you just need an Ackbar. For $9.99, you can get in on the ground floor of this vintage Admiral Ackbar on a vintage 65-back card, with a cut blister, a Target price tag and a small stain on his shoulder. Worth. Every. Penny.

THUNDERBIRDS (1993) – 4 CARDED FIGURES. (hakes.com)

Thunderbirds are go! Or ready to go, anyway – bidding is still low on this set of four (!) Thunderbirds action figures, but it’s understandable given that they never really took off (pun intended) in the United States. Snap them up for a steal.

C.O.P.S.’N CROOKS COPS BLUE STREAK CYCLE IN BOX. (hakes.com)

One of the greatest toy lines of all time doesn’t have any carded figures in this auction, but it does have a boxed example of the Blue Streak COPS cycle. One of the awesome futuristic vehicles from the show, you;ll have to pick up two figures elsewhere to ride on it (one in the sidecar!) but it’s a crime (get it?) how little you can pick this one up for.

DICK TRACY POLICE SQUAD CAR FACTORY SEALED IN BOX & CARDED FIGURE BY PLAYMATES. (hakes.com)

With Dick Tracy making a big comic book comeback thanks to writer Alex Segura, there is NOT enough interest in this boxed squad car from the Dick Tracy movie. Plus, it comes with a carded Dick Tracy figure, all for a low, low price. We already made a crime joke, but seriously, it’s worth a look.

THE PHANTOM ON THRONE CARDED ACTION FIGURE BY STREET PLAYERS. (hakes.com)

This movie-inspired figure may not LOOK like Billy Zane, but it has a big picture of Billy Zane on the card, so it must be Billy Zane. Plus it comes with a throne AND a Phantom ring for you to wear. That’s worth the low price or admission all by itself. Honor the memory of Street Players Toys, and don’t forget to slam evil!

THE LEGEND OF THE LONE RANGER (1980) – THE LONE RANGER 3 3/4 INCH SERIES AFA 85 NM+. (hakes.com)

The Lone Ranger may have fizzled out after Johnny Depp and Armie Hammer’s feature film, but for a while there we thrilled to his adventures in the comic book by Brett Matthews. Remember the heady days of cowboy heroics with this surprisingly valuable figure by Gabriel Toys.

CENTURIONS: POWER XTREME (1986) – ACE McCLOUD AIR OPERATIONS EXPERT AFA 80 NM. (hakes.com)

Everyone thinks of the 1990s when they think of things being Extreme, but the Centurions were extreme even back in 1986! Finding packaged examples with all of the little tiny pieces that attached to their armor is “extreme”ly difficult, which means this boxed example is going for good money.

G.I. JOE ACTION FORCE (1986) – DESTRO 20 BACK CARDED ACTION FIGURE. (hakes.com)

If you’re going to buy a G.I. Joe figure, you might as well buy the coolest character in the canon, which is Destro, iron-masked owner of the MARS corporation and weapons supplier to Cobra. And if you’re going to buy a Destro, you may as well pick up the rarer one, on the Action Force card, as GI Joe was known in the UK. Plus, he’s Scottish, so it feels like the right thing to do.

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE (1987) – SCARE GLOW SERIES 6 AFA 70 EX+ (GLOWING HALBERD). (hakes.com)

We once thought Scare Glow was just “Beach Skeletor,” with an added cape and minus his skin. But it turns out he’s the evil ruler of another dimension! This figure was one of the last released in the MOTU line, and as such has gained a bit of notoriety. Plus, he just looks so darn cool. Skeletons FTW!
