Horror manga writer and artist Junji Ito's work has seen a huge spike in popularity in recent years in the US, thanks both to the power of his frightening images unsettling stories, and to the internet for spreading it to new fans. Most recently, his best and most popular series of stories, Uzumaki, was adapted into an anime series on Adult Swim. But Ito's career actually spans decades, reaching all the way back into the 1980s. In a new memoir releasing this month called Uncanny: The Origins of Fear, Ito takes readers through his work--and you can preorder it now. According to Amazon's description of the book, Uncanny is both professional memoir and horror manga analysis. "...[Ito] tells all and digs into dark recesses--reflections on influences from his childhood, thoughts on manga, next-level idea-generation techniques, character design, craftmanship, and more," it reads. It also says that the book is "full of never-before-told insider anecdotes and behind-the-scenes stories." Ito has written about how he goes about creating the intense, frightening, unnerving, and often weird horror stories he's known for, but it sounds like the author goes even further into his own inspirations and feelings in the book. The hardcover book releases on October 15, and you can preorder at Amazon for $25.20, down from its list price of $28. The preorder is eligible for Amazon Prime delivery, and as with other Amazon preorders, it comes with a price guarantee--if the price drops before the book shifts, Amazon will automatically give you the lower price. There are a bunch of other great manga collections from Ito available at Amazon, too, including the excellent Uzumaki, and Tomie, one of the more upsetting groups of stories in Ito's oeuvre.
