Welcome to Action Figure Insider’s 9th Anniversary “Scoop Week!”  As has been the case for the past eight years, on the week of our anniversary of AFi’s launch,  we have a little something we like to call “Scoop Week” where we bring you a variety of exclusive news on all your favorite action figure, collectibles and toy lines.   We reached out far and wide to a variety of companies that have been incredibly generous to give us scoops and exclusive news.    We had so many responses that several day we will have multiple scoops so make sure you are checking back each day!

Here we are on the back side of Scoop Week 2014, but we aren’t slowing down now!    Here’s a new scoop from our friends at MattyCollector.com.

As you well know, 2014 is the 30^th anniversary of Kenner’s classic DC Comics toy line “The Super Powers Collection” and to celebrate that fact and commemorate the end of the DCUC/DCSC line, Mattel is doing a 6” Super Powers tribute sub-line.

This sub-line was announced back in February at Mattel’s collector press event at Toy Fair 2014.   They told us that later this year Mattel would be releasing a “farewell” wave of 6” figures that have been repainted in the style of the old Kenner Super Powers figures.   The figures would be broken up into two waves of three and would all include parts to build a repainted Kalibak collect and connect figure (Mr. Mxy would come with the torso since it’s the largest part).  The other figures in the line are: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Gold Superman, The Riddler and Mr. Mxp.

These figures include some that had been previously designed, but never officially released, such as the light blue Superman that was originally supposed to be in a two-pack.    Several of the lighter colored Supermen did show up on Ebay over the years, but this is his first official release.   The figures will ship on over-sized Super Powers type cards. They aren’t exact replicas, but they are pretty darn close.   The figures will ship on the card, but  loose in the bubble with no inner tray (like the Kenner figures) and the Collect and Connect piece will be polly-bagged in the mailer box and not in the bubble with the figure.

At the Toy Fair event Mattel showed up a mock-up of the front of the card, but today for scoop week we have one of the card proofs, so you can see the front, and the back with the bio and the awesome cross-sell image.

Here’s the awesome cross-sell image.  It includes all 33 of the original Super Powers release as well as Clark Kent (which was the mail away figure in SP) and the Riddler (which only saw foriegn release and was just a repainted Green Lantern). In addition to the regular figures in the Super Powers line Mattel expands the image to include the figures we knew were sculpted for wave 4 (such as Man-Bat and El Dorado) and the ones that were considered in wave 5 and beyond.

I’m a big Super Powers collector so I’ll absolutely be getting these figures when they are released, but I’d also buy just a full set of unused proof cards for my display.
