Twice a month the gang from Mattel are kind enough to answer five questions from AFi readers. The Mattel marketing and PR team, have replied with the answers to our latest round of questions that AFi readers have posted in our forums. There will not be a posting of answers on January 1st as Mattel will still be closed during that time.
Here is our latest round of questions and their answers:
Q1. About Club Infinite Earths. Would you ever consider giving subscribers more choice on club figures? It was awesome that we got to choose Metron for the exclusive figure. Maybe having a couple of fan choice monthly figures (Where you would give us a choice of say 3 characters and we would pick 1 through a poll) would satisfy those of us who think Mattel never hears the fans input and may be a great incentive to resubscribe each year
A1. While this is something we would love to do, licensor approvals, schedules and other logistical issues tend to make it harder than you would expect.
Q2. What happened to the size of Tin from the Metal Men? When you first showed him at Toy Fair he came up to Platinum’s elbow. Then at Comic Con he was shown to be much smaller, not even being as tall as her waist. Why did he shrink?
A2. He was originally sculpted as a 2 up and then shrunk down to normal 6″ scale for production.
Q3. Recently some new images of some unannounced Action League figures (White Lantern Batman, White Lantern Superman and Arkham City Batman) have popped up on line. Is that any indication that the DC Action League line will continue? You guys did a whole new package design for what we all thought was the last wave that is now hitting stores.
A3. At this time there are no plans to continue to Action League line.
Q4. With the Batpod making a prominent appearance in “The Dark Knight Rises” why did Mattel not re-release this hot, hard to find vehicle in the Movie Masters line so fans Catwoman figures would have a ride?
A4. While we are big fans of the Batpod it wasn’t something we could reoffer right now.
Q5. As we now come to the end of the first year of the DC Club Infinite Earths subscription can you talk about what you have learned in this first year of what fans want in a pure collector line? Any reactions that have surprised you? Anything you have implemented for year 2?
A5. The biggest key learning was DC fans are very passionate but in the end not as numerous as customers. We will continue to put out DC 6″ figures as long as there is a customer base to support our min quota.
If you’d like to ask a question for the January 15th submission then feel free to post your questions in our Mattel Q&A question submissions thread! Remember they can be about any Mattel product including MOTUC, Ghostbusters, WWE, any of the Mattel DC lines, Voltron and Cars. Twice a month we draw our submission question directly from the ones that AFi readers post.
You can submit new questions in this thread.
And you can discuss the answers on our Mattel board.
Thanks again to the team at Mattel for taking time to answer our questions!
