Twice a month the gang from Mattel are kind enough to answer five questions from AFi readers. The Mattel marketing and PR team, have replied with the answers to our latest round of questions that AFi readers have posted in our forums.
There won’t be an ‘Ask Matty’ Q&A for July 15th as that will be during Comic Con, so if you have any post-SDCC questions after their reveals post those ASAP.
Let’s get to the questions and the answers!
Q1. While I am excited about the Infinite Earths subscription line and look forward to getting a new DC Universe six inch figure delivered to my door every month, one drawback this system seems to have, as opposed to retail, is the lack of variant figures, such as Cheetah and Sinestro in DCUC. With the long and rich history of the DC Universe, characters have gone through a variety of costume changes, and what is “iconic” to one person might not be to someone else. Have you considered a way to include variants in the Infinite Earths line? Since, I’m assuming you’d want to make them limited and thus increase their desirability, perhaps this could be an option available only to subscribers (and thus another incentive to subscribe)?
A1. We are looking into a few ways of doing variants. We can’t pack them randomly into an online toy line due to inter state lotto laws. But we are exploring options to keep this element in the line.
Q2. Is there any chance of renaming the Metal Men’s Lead with the Latin term (Plubium-?) or calling him “Metal Men Leader” so we can complete that team? the fans and collectors will know who it is.
A2. No. If we do Lead we will call him Lead. No need to rename him.
Q3. Is there any possibility there might be a second wave of Batman movie masters after the first six figures?
A3. For this year, there are only 6 main figures that complete the working Batsignal collect and connect, but did you find the exclusives?
Q4. We’ve already been surprised by 3 retail exclusive DKR Movie Masters figures (The Walmart Commish Gordon, shirtless Bane in the TRU 2-pack and the K-Mart Batman with blueprints) Are there any others we should know about and be on the lookout for?
A4. Have you looked closely at Catwoman?
Q5. If a new character is created/introduced in the new MOTU DC Comic do you have the rights to make a figure of that character?
A5. Yes.
If you’d like to ask a question for the June 1st submission then feel free to post your questions in our Mattel Q&A question submissions thread! Remember they can be about any Mattel product including MOTUC, Ghostbusters, WWE any of the Mattel DC lines, Voltron and Cars. Twice a month we draw our submission question directly from the ones that AFi readers post.
You can submit new questions in this thread.
You can find our past Q&A’s here. And you can discuss the answers on our Mattel board.
Thanks again to the team at Mattel for taking time to answer our questions!
