Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is the second chapter in the Final Fantasy VII reboot trilogy, bringing players out of Midgar for the first time and allowing them to explore iconic locations from the original game. It picks up after the events of 2020's Final Fantasy VII Remake with the party having just left the city and preparing to track down Sephiroth, meaning there's still plenty of story to tell. Of course, all of the characters from Remake return in Rebirth, but there's a lot of time left to meet new characters, too. This sequel expands the roster to include a total of three more members--Yuffie, Red XIII, and Cait Sith--the latter of which hasn't been seen in battle at all until now. Cid and Vincent will appear during this outing, though it's worth noting that they won't be joining as playable characters until the next game. However, fans will get a chance to briefly play as two characters that weren't playable in the 1997 original--the heroic Zack and main antagonist Sephiroth--in scenarios that highlight their importance to this fresh take on the Final Fantasy VII timeline. Here are all of the playable characters in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Cloud
Main character Cloud unsurprisingly returns in this middle chapter of the Final Fantasy VII reboot, and he's still wielding his iconic Buster Sword and giving off his usual moody vibes as he moves closer to understanding his mysterious past. Tifa
Cloud's childhood best friend, Tifa, is back for round two to expand on her complicated, traumatic backstory and bring plenty of martial arts for laying the smackdown on enemies. Aerith
Perhaps one of gaming's most beloved characters, the kind and heartwarming Aerith makes a return as a mage archetype who is barreling towards a potentially earth-shattering climax in part two of this story. Barret
Everyone's favorite swear-happy tough guy, Barret, is back in action with no shortage of bullets to unload from his gun arm--but he also faces some devastating blasts from the past in this middle chapter. Red XIII
After a guest appearance near the end of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Red XIII is fully playable in Rebirth with tons of flair to go around--and he also gets a much-needed look into his origins during this part of the story. Yuffie
Though she was playable in Final Fantasy VII Remake's Intergrade DLC, the wonderfully mischievous Yuffie joins the main party in Rebirth with a lot of energy and a chance to prove she's more than just a materia thief. Cait Sith
Cait Sith marks Rebirth's first character to have not been seen in combat at all yet in the rebooted trilogy, and though long-term fans may find themselves skeptical of his intentions, this robotic cat riding atop a moogle brings joyful and cartoonish fun to fights. Zack
Though he's not expected to join the main party, Zack receives his own chapter in Rebirth that will flesh out his place in this new timeline, giving fans of the extended Final Fantasy VII world a fresh perspective on one of the most compelling characters in the series. Sephiroth
No doubt one of the most memorable villains in all of gaming, Sephiroth is playable alongside Cloud during flashbacks that give insight into his troubled history and give players a chance to wield his epic sword Masamune in battle.
