AMD has officially announced the Ryzen 9000 Series, with the lineup arriving on July 31. Pricing is yet to be revealed, but we do know the series consists of four products (9950X, 9900X, 9700X, 9600X) based on AMD's Zen 5 CPU architecture and should offer nice performance boosts over the existing AMD CPUs.
The Ryzen 9 9900X is said to run better than the popular Intel Core i9 14900K, with AMD claiming an 11% boost in performance when running Cyberpunk 2077 and an overall 21% boost in productivity. It's hard to say how impressive those numbers are without seeing a price tag, though it'll likely fall in line with the 14900K (which can be had for around $620).
The Ryzen 7 9700X, meanwhile, is expected to outdo the existing Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which is already a great option for building a gaming rig. That CPU is currently on sale at Amazon for $339 (down from $449), so while the Ryzen 9000 Series is just around the corner, this isn't a bad time to upgrade your rig.
