Several months ago online retailer Amok Time surprised collectors by getting into the retro 3.75″ (or 4″) game when they announced a 2-pack of action figures based on the 1951 sci fi parable film “The Day The Earth Stood Still.” In the past we have gotten a few Day The Earth Stood Still items, mostly vinyl figures of Gort from places like X-Plus and unlicensed garage kits. This is the first time we have action figures of both Gort and Klaatu. While this set might be a bit niche, they are very well done from both a retro toy and movie representation.
The card - The card is a bit underwhelming. It’s black and white and features some image from the film. The bubble is so large it covers the name of the characters. The bubble also isn’t glued down very well and mine had completely separated from the card.
 
Klaatu -The Klaatu figure is 4″ tall and has 7 points of articulation at the hips, shoulders, fore-arms and neck. The fore-arm swivels are just on a small pin and can easily pop out and pop back in. The figure has interchangeable heads with a masked head and un-masked. The unmasked head on mine has a pretty heavy wash on it. It looks better from further away, than close up. I think I will keep the masked head on mine.
  
GORT – Gort is 5″ tall with 5 points of articulation at the hips, shoulders, wrists and neck. I wish that Gort also had an alternate head with the visor down since Gort spends most of the move like that.
Gort is my favorite of the pair. He silently towers over all of my other retro 3.75″ figures.
