It's Tuesday! Time for another round of "5 Must-Hear Pop Songs of the Week"!
This week's roundup features trap-turned-trance euphoria from a certain Navy Commander, funky throwback grooves from a Scissor Sister gone solo, and some devastating heartbreak from the industry's Concrete Rose. Let's go!
1.) Ashanti, "Never Should Have"
Our beloved Concrete Rose is back! Five years since The Declaration, R&B chanteuse Ashanti is finally gearing up to release her long-awaited follow-up, Braveheart. Taking a break from her gig on the latest season of "Army Wives," the "Foolish" songstress has just unveiled a brand-new track from the upcoming album: "Never Should Have," a devastating power ballad that sees the singer pouring more emotion into a track than ever before. "I thought that you were ready/ I thought that we were gonna be a family," she achingly cries out above a striding marching beat and light electronica flourishes. Sure, there are probably some things you shouldn't have done, Ashanti -- but releasing "Never Should Have" isn't one of them.

2.) Slow Knights featuring Bright Light Bright Light, "Under Attack"
The Scissor Sisters may have announced an indefinite hiatus late last year, but the band's guitarist, Del Marquis, hasn't skipped a beat. Slow Knights is the name of Del's (sort of) solo endeavor -- a musical collective featuring a handful of musicians and singers, which kicked off last week with the release of Cosmos. "Under Attack" is an instant highlight: a shimmering, euphoric nod to '80s pop that conjures the blissful bounce of early Madonna, featuring U.K. electro-pop singer-songwriter Bright Light Bright Light on vocals. (Major "Holiday" vibes!) Go on -- get into the groove.

3.) Rihanna, "Pour It Up (Cosmic Dawn Radio Edit)"
The bad news: It's not official. The good news: It's amazing (and it damn well should be!). Rihanna's "Pour It Up" is one of the many moody highlights on her latest studio album, Unapologetic. The newly surfaced Cosmic Dawn remix, which made its way online last week, throws Rihanna's money-minded track out of the trap and into a heaven-sent progressive trance beat, resulting in a luscious, sweeping new production. The original might have you twerking and dropping dollars to the ground, but this? Keep your money in your pocket and throw up your hands instead, 'cause you're about to dance.

4.) Carly Rae Jepsen, "Tonight I'm Getting Over You (Showtek Remix)"
Despite the fact that Canadian Queen Carly Rae Jepsen's worldwide debut LP, Kiss, is chock-full of glittery gems, nothing seems to be sticking to radio quite like her inescapable 2012 smash, "Call Me Maybe." But now she's busting out the big guns: "Tonight I'm Getting Over You" is Miss Jepsen's Max Martin-produced smash, and one of the many standouts of the record. After releasing the song a few weeks ago, she's just unleashed a set of blazing remixes including one by Showtek: a stomping, blissful rave fest that packs an even harder punch than the original. With any luck, this should propel the songstress to the top of the Hot 100 (or at least the club charts).

5.) Sophie Ellis-Bextor, "Young Blood"
It's been two years since U.K. disco diva Sophie Ellis-Bextor released 2011's brilliant Make A Scene. To satiate her fans patiently awaiting the follow-up (due out later this year), the "Murder On The Dancefloor" songstress has just released "Young Blood," a demo crafted by Ed Harcourt. As she assures us on her website, the new track is "not a dance record, or a pop record" -- and she's right! Instead, it's a straightforward acoustic tune crooned atop a simple piano melody, which is something we've not yet heard from La Bex. A brief foray into some unexpected sound is always appreciated and healthy for the creative process! Now then, let's bring back those beats.
