DICE's new shooter arriving later this year for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC; runs on Frostbite 3; 17-minute gameplay trailer revealed.
Electronic Arts confirmed today that Battlefield 4 will launch this fall. No platforms were named in the game's official announcement, but its preorder page lists Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. A 17-minute gameplay trailer is embedded below.
Battlefield 4 is powered by the Frostbite 3 engine, technology that EA said will "set a new standard for interactive entertainment in 2013."
EA described Battlefield 4 as a "seminal moment" for the series, noting some of the franchise's multiplayer elements will be incorporated into single-player this time around. Battlefield 4's single-player campaign will also track players' progress, allowing gamers to compete head-to-head.
In addition, players will be able to issue squad commands in Battlefield 4's single-player campaign.
Lastly, EA announced today that those who preorder Battlefield 4 will receive a free "premium expansion." No further information about this add-on was divulged. A Battlefield 4 Digital Deluxe edition for PC will also be available exclusively through Origin. Gamers who preorder this version will also receive the aforementioned expansion, as well as access to the Battlefield 4 multiplayer beta.
