Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirms studio not yet working on sequel to last month's stylized shooter, but expects that to change in the future.
Borderlands 3 is not in development at Gearbox Software, studio CEO Randy Pitchford said recently over Twitter. The executive dispatched a flurry of tweets that shut down the recent speculation that the studio was already at work on a sequel to last month's well-received shooter Borderlands 2.
"Chill out, Internet," Pitchford said. "No one has started working on a sequel to Borderlands 2. Clean and simple truth: the only Borderlands-related game development work going on right now is for Borderlands 2," he added.
Though Borderlands 3 is not presently in development at Gearbox, Pitchford teased that he "expects that to change at some point, adding that "it's fun to talk and think."
Gearbox is currently working on downloadable content for Borderlands 2, which will comprise at least four campaign expansions. Additionally, the company is working on Aliens: Colonial Marines, a new IP out of the ashes of Brothers in Arms: Furious 4, and possibly a Duke Nukem Forever follow-up.
