+ Lady Gaga unveiled the official artwork for "Applause" (out Aug. 19), the lead single off of ARTPOP (out Nov. 11) to Women's Wear Daily. In the publication's accompanying interview, the 2013 VMA performer says of the dramatic image: "When I look at it I see that there is a longing for the applause. I see that there is a void that is leaking onstage... Something more human, something more honest." (MTV News)

+ Donda's House, a nonprofit founded by Kanye West and Rhymefest, has just launched "Got Bars?", a free music writing program in Chicago for at-risk youth. Rhymefest will also serve as an instructor for the new program. (Pitchfork)

+ David "Kidd" Kraddick, host of the syndicated "Kid Kraddick In The Morning," passed away Saturday during a charity golf event near New Orleans. He was 53. Hearing the news, Kelly Clarkson tweeted: "Oh Man, I just heard Kidd Kraddick died! He's my childhood dj. What a sad day. His poor family. He was nice 2 me from the beginning." (Billboard)

+ J.J. Cale, best known for writing Eric Clapton's "After Midnight" and "Cocaine," died Friday after suffering a heart attack. He was 74. (Billboard)
