Cesar’s Top 5 Toys of 2015

2015 is over and 2016 is just getting started, so now is a good time to reflect on the past year’s events. On my personal website I’ve posted a countdown of my Top 15 Movies of 2015, but  since this is a toy website I’ll list my 5 favorite toys of last year here. For this list I’m making the distinction from “action figures” to the broader term “toys” because 2 items on this list aren’t figures but were some of my favorite toys to play with this year. Read my list after the jump…

5. Man-Bat (DC Collectibles)

2016-01-05 13.22.31

DC Collectibles has had an amazing year with the “Batman: The Animated Series” line. Due to budgetary  constraints I couldn’t go out  and get everything in this line that I wanted, including the very awesome Batmobile! The only figure from the line that I did get was the very well made and beautiful Man-Bat. I  love this figure because not only is he screen accurate  but he reminds me of the Man-Bat figure I had as a kid, just a very upgraded version. Had I gotten any of the figures from this line that I wanted I’m sure I could have easily  swapped out this spot in the list for any of them, they are all very awesome. I’m glad I got this one.

4. Boba Fett (Disney Infinity)

The first and certainly not last entry on this list that’s not an action figure, Boba Fett is more of a toy than a figure. Granted he is a static figure that  is highly detailed and very well made, but he can’t be played with in the traditional sense. In order to get the full experience of this figure you have to have the Disney Infinity video game. There you can shoot his sawed-off space rifle, fly the Slave-1, and even use his rocket-pack. It should also be noted that in the game he also shoots a rocket from his back, a promise Kenner couldn’t make good on. There were many beautiful Disney Infinity figures to choose from but I’ve enjoyed this bounty hunter scum the most.

3. Superman 1978 (NECA Toys)

2016-01-05 13.26.50

NECA has been making dreams come true for a lot of us for a long time and this year  they  made a lot of DC collectors’ collections complete. That’s probably the highest praise you can give this figure, it fills a slot that we all had and  it does it in spades. We probably could not have asked  for a better figure in terms of scale, articulation, and likeness. The fact that he can be displayed with  NECA’s other homeruns like ’89 Batman, Dark Knight Joker, and Adam West, makes this figure that much better. I’m glad to finally have not only this figure, but this version of it.

2. Dark Knight Returns Batman (Mezco Toys)

This is hands down the best action figure released last year. It was released early in 2015 but nothing came close. Mezco has revolutionized the 6-inch scale figure. They have upped their game and hopefully everybody ups theirs. I did a full write-up on this figure here, so there’s not much more I can say but hopefully Mezco keeps up the good work.

  1. BB8 (Sphero)

My favorite toy of the year was this tiny little expensive tennis ball. It isn’t by any means a perfect toy but no matter how you slice it, it’s fun. Toys are supposed to be fun and BB8 delivers. The smile it brings to my face is enough, but when others get their hands on him it’s always fun to see their reaction. Not since the hula-hoop have people gone so nuts to share a toy with one another. Not only do I enjoy sharing it with friends but I also enjoy sharing BB8 with my pets. It gives them as much enjoyment as it gives me. This is the toy to beat this year and I’m glad I have one.

That’s my list, I hope you enjoyed the choices as well as its brevity. Let me know if you agree in the comments section and what your favorite toys or figures were from 2015! Also, Happy New Year!
