The first Clerks movie hit theaters in 1994. 12 years later, Clerks 2 arrived in 2006. Now, 16 years after that, we're going back to Quick Stop. Clerks 3 arrives in the fall and the first trailer for the film, which is definitely a semi-autobiographical look at Smith's life since having a heart attack, is here.

The trailer for Clerks 3 is filled with pretty much everything you'd expect, familiar faces, dirty jokes, Star Wars references, and of course a love/hate relationship with Quick Stop for Randall and Dante, once again played by Jeff Anderson and Brian O'Halloran. It's also filled with tons of Easter eggs, surprising moments, and meta references to Smith's own work as a filmmaker, as Randall attempts to create his first movie.

We dug through the trailer to find the 20 best Easter eggs, references, and surprises found in the first Clerks 3 trailer. Take a look below while we wait for an official premiere date. You hopefully won't have to wait too long, though, and Clerks 3 premieres in theaters this fall.

1. Art imitates art

In Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, Jay and Silent Bob had turned RST Video into a marijuana dispensary disguised as a chicken restaurant. Now, it seems they've just flat-out turned it into a dispensary.

You can also see advertisements for longtime fictional brand staples of Kevin Smith movies, Shewlie's gum and Nails cigarettes--though Nails now seems to make vape pens. The times they are a-changing!

2. The boys are back in town

It's not a Clerks movie without Jay and Bob. Though, we do wonder about the suitcase handcuffed to Bob's wrist. Is he carrying the nuclear launch codes or are these two very protective of their weed these days?

3. Rooftop hockey

Quite a callback to the initial Clerks film, Dante and Randall are playing a game of rooftop hockey. It's hard to see who all is there, but that long-bearded fellow certainly looks like longtime Kevin Smith collaborator Brian Johnson, who recurs in the films as Steve-Dave.

4. Art also imitates life

Randall's heart attack is clearly a nod to Smith's own heart attack in 2018.

5. Welcome back, Elias

After being introduced in Clerks 2, Elias returns as a full-fledged Quick Stop employee.

6. Mooby's makes everything

In a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment, it seems Mooby's, the fast food restaurant first introduced in Dogma, also makes breakfast cereal now.

7. I assure you, he's alive

In the original Clerks, the sign on the front of Quick Stop reads, "I assure you, we're open." In Clerks 2, it read, "I assure you, we're re-open." Now it's there to let us know Randall didn't die.

8. Still being nice to shoplifters

The "If you plan to shoplift, let us know" sign has been affixed to that cash register since the very first Clerks film back in 1994.

9. Ranger Danger

This truly bad-looking CGI movie is based on a T-shirt seen in Clerks 2. Smith has, at times, said he planned to make a Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers movie in the vein of Flash Gordon, but it's yet to materialize.

10. Elias goes goth

It's not entirely clear why, but bible-thumping good boy Elias has tapped into his dark side for some reason and become a goth film nerd during Clerks 3. That should be fun.

11. Famous faces for Randall's movie

Sure, they aren't playing themselves, but kudos to the talent Randall was able to pull together to audition for his movie. If only Ben Affleck didn't ham it up so much on his read of Dante's infamous line. Also, interesting to note they also auditioned women to play Dante.

12. Aaaaaaand Star Wars

It's not a Clerks movie without Star Wars talk. Are Jay and Silent Bob really like C-3PO and R2-D2, though?

13. Yes, that's real Jay and Silent Bob weed

Those pre-rolled joints Jay is wielding are actually Smith and Jason Mewes' personal brand of cannabis. They offer three different pre-rolls--Snoogans, Berzerker, and Snoochie Boochie.

14. Inconvenience

The clapboard Jay is holding shows us the name of Randall's movie, Inconvenience. That's actually a nod to what Smith was originally going to call Clerks. And, like Clerks, Randall's movie is in black and white.

15. Becky's still there

Dante's partner Becky, played by Rosario Dawson, is back for Clerks 3, and she still seems to be working at Mooby's. Hopefully, she's someone important at corporate by now.

16. We'll get sued by Disney

Dante harkens back to a conversation from the first Clerks film, saying it should be included in Randall's movie--only for Randall to think it's not such a wise idea.

17. Mooby the golden calf lives

Let's be honest, who knows why Jay and Silent Bob are back at Mooby's, parting with the funployees? We don't care, because it's good to see the old cow still shaking its thing.

18. It's the walrus man!

Another Smith regular, Justin Long, pops up in the trailer, playing a doctor telling Randall to take his pants off. Long also appeared in Zack & Miri Make a Porno, along with Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Of course, he's also the man that got turned into a walrus in Smith's bizarre horror movie Tusk.

19. Dante dies?

No, not really. But in Randall's movie, he added a scene where the character is shot. What you may not know is this is how the original Clerks ended, with someone coming in and shooting Dante at point-blank, before robbing the cash register. Of note, the actor portraying the killer in Randall's movie is the same person who did it in the alternate ending of Clerks, Smith's cousin John Willyung, who played bit parts in his future movies as the character Cohee Lundin. He's even wearing similar clothes.

20. There would never be a sequel to this

"A sequel, what am I, a hack?" Randall asks Dante because it would be impossible to make a sequel to a movie like Clerks...right?
