Content-buffed Prepare to Die edition of 2011 role-playing game confirmed for digital and retail release on August 24 on Windows machines.

From Software is bringing its 2011 role-playing game Dark Souls to the PC this summer in the form of the Prepare to Die Edition, publisher Namco Bandai announced today. Due out worldwide on August 24 at retail and via digital distribution outlets, the game will feature additional content.

According to Namco Bandai community manager Rich Bantegui, part of the new content is a Manticore-like monster to tackle, which takes the form of a winged creature with a lion face and horns. This beast is highlighted in the game's trailer, embedded below.

[UPDATE] Namco Bandai has confirmed that Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will arrive worldwide on August 24. Additionally, the publisher revealed the game will include an "enhanced" PVP mode, where players can "more closely" create battles against eachother.

Further, From Software is bundling a new chapter in the Prepare to Die Edition of Dark Souls. The game will ship with "Artorias of the Abyss," which will include new areas to explore, enemies to defeat, and bosses to battle.

Dark Souls was released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in October 2011 to a glowing critical reception. It went on to ship more than 1.5 million units worldwide and was October's sixth-best-selling title.
