Darksiders II delayed to August

THQ's apocalyptic action game pushed back two months for 360, PS3, and PC to give Vigil more time for polish and bug fixing; publisher says it has "nothing to do" with Wii U launch.

THQ has staved off death for a few more months, as the publisher today delayed the horseman's playable debut in Darksiders II to August. Previously, the game had been announced for a June 26 launch.

In a post on the game's official site, a THQ representative said the delay to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC versions of the game was made to give the development team at Vigil more time to polish the game, fix bugs, and "to ensure that all aspects of Darksiders II meet the high-quality bar the team is targeting."

Despite the pushback, it appears the Wii U edition of Darksiders II will still trail its current-generation counterparts. In a Q&A section on the site specifically addressing Nintendo's new system, the publisher said, "The date was shifted to ensure we meet the high quality threshold that we are committed to achieving. It has nothing to do with any other platform releases."

Darksiders II follows the horseman Death instead of the original game's protagonist, War, and it tells a parallel story to the original rather than continuing on from that title's conclusion. In the game, Death will attempt to clear War's "good" name (he's accused of starting the end of times ahead of time) and save humankind in the process.
