Once again, I am faced with wondering how I should collect my collection.  And once again, I will use HeroClix as my commentary.

I recently once again began looking at making a purchase on line for a bunch of pieces.  Looking over the various sites to see which one had the most that I wanted for what I felt was a reasonable price.  Then it happened.

I spotted an auction at HCRealms.com.  This one was completed, over, but another was just beginning.  I bid on something. Then on something else.  Then I was back again to see that someone had outbid me on every lot I had bid one.  So I bid again.  And again.  Some of the lots got more expensive that what I felt the few pieces I actually wanted were worth and I let them go.  Then the auction was over.  I had won a set of 14 or so figures for a good price.  I paid for my winning and the shipping.  About 20$.

But wait.  Was that what I should have bought?  Let’s take a look.  Did it complete an older set?  No, well sort of, I bolded the 4 pieces I did not have before, but it was not the set I was going to complete.  Did it include the pieces I have been wanting most lately?  No, well there is one piece in there that would cost me 50 cents or 1 dollar at most stores that I have been wanting a lot lately (Brainiac 005).  Did it include pieces I will be using soon?  Probably not as there are newer versions of almost all of these characters, so I would probably choose the newer versions.

Then why?  Reason 1. 020 Lex Luthor.  For a long time, I had an eye out for this piece.  I knew it was worth about 10$ by itself if I bought it individually.  It was high on my list at one point.  But then we got 4 new versions of Lex and it kind of fell off the list.  Reason 2. I got caught up in the moment.  I was looking to spend something to expand my collection and I thought I could get something cheap.  But in doing so, I got something farther down my list than my top wants.

So what now?  Three things.  1. I vow to use both Brainiac and Lex shortly after they arrive.  2.  The holes in my collection of Martian Manhunter and Oracle feel much more noticeable than before.  3. I will try to focus on what I really want, completing my set of Lantern Rings from the War of Light set.  I only need a few more and could have completed that for the same price or less. Next time.

4. That Brainiac, Lex and Superman all look very cool.  They may not have been at the top, but I am glad I am getting them.
