The opening menu screen for Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae.
An early environment in Episode Duscae. Plains of tall grass, forests, and lakes dot the landscape.
The four party members; Prompto Argentum (blonde hair, on the left), Ignis Stupeo Scientia (glasses, spiked blonde hair), Gladiolus Amicitia (open shirt, on the right) and the protagonist, Noctis Lucis Caelum, with his back to the camera.
At the moment, characters can tread through water up to their knees, but the development team is considering implementing swimming mechanics.
The sun begins to set, showcasing the game's day-night cycle and impressive lighting engine.
When your team is about to come under threat, a red bar appears at the top of the screen, growing increasingly wide and bright as enemies close in.
Here, Noctis uses a spear, but he can utilize up to five weapons on-the-fly. The ghostly silhouette is an effect of summoning and storing the weapon.
Once a fight is complete, this screen reveals your performance and any bonuses you may receive accordingly. This likely impacts the amount of EXP your party receives.
Here, we see Prompto firing a pistol on the right side of the screen, evidence of Final Fantasy XV's use of guns in combat.
Defending and parrying are important during combat. Here, we see Noctis attempting to parry an attack from the tusked monster on the left.
In this screen, Noctis defends an attack using one of his five weapons.
You can apparently use objects in your environment to hide from enemies, as Noctis is seen doing in this screen.
When your party members are low on health, a first-aid indicator will appear over their head.
The spiky icon on Noctis appears to be a warning of an incoming attack.
Noctis and Prompto are in the midst of a combo attack. In these moments, the camera shifts between characters as they contribute to the combo.
Here, Noctis is under attack in the moment before he delivers the final blow of a combo.
This screen displays the weapons currently equipped to Noctis. Most weapons allow you to equip an action ability and a support ability. Examples include HP drain and gradual MP recovery.
Here's a similar environment to the one shown earlier in the demo, but it's later in the day, murkier, and appears to be under a thin layer of fog.
In this shot, the team examines a set of footprints that belong to a large beast.
The team tracks quests, which are highlighted on the map to the right.
Items can be found strewn throughout the world. The game indicates nearby treasure using a subtle marker.
Noctis sent Prompto out to investigate something in the distance. You can see him in the background, signalling Noctis.
Day turns to night, and the moon provides subtle illumination.
Noctis's flashlight, which is strapped to his chest, illuminates an attacking goblin.
A military-like ship arrives on the scene, and a dozen or more soldiers confront Noctis and his crew.
Noctis and crew take on the horde of soldiers.
This is an example of a camp site. You can camp to rest and cook dinner.
A close-up of beef stew.
The team eats their meal and shares a conversation.
Gladiolus and Noctis sneak into a tunnel.
Inside the tunnel, they bear witness to a roaring behemoth, presumably the target of their current quest. This particular enemy can only see out of one eye, so you have to use its blind spot to your advantage.
