Mischievous trickster, misunderstood hero, or malicious murderer? Solas, the Dread Wolf, will certainly be a thorn on your side in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. However, as the old saying goes: "The enemy of my enemy is my friend." That means you're still going to need his assistance. Perhaps you can also help him find salvation at the very end. Here's our guide on how to redeem or save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains major spoilers. How to redeem or save Solas in Dragon Age: The VeilguardIf you want to save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, and we use the term "save" loosely, be prepared to make some key decisions throughout the campaign and even before you start it. Essentially, Solas finding redemption becomes the game's true/best ending. Here's what you need to know: - Solas wants to tear open the Veil to bring forth a new age. Once you reach the last portion of the game, you're presented with two choices: Fight him or trick him. A third option will appear if you meet certain requirements.
- The Inquisitor and Solas must have been romantically involved in Dragon Age: Inquisition.
- The Inquisitor has to admit her feelings for him.
- You must have Mythal's Essence from the Crossroads.
Please note that there are still other factors to consider as you arrive at the campaign's conclusion, such as keeping your companions and allied NPCs alive. You can learn more about these in our finale and endings guide. Solas and Inquisitor romance
Before you start the Dragon Age: The Veilguard campaign, you're given the option to decide how the previous game, Inquisition, turned out. Specifically, you'll want to customize the Inquisitor: - Inquisitor: Must be a female elf.
- Friendship and romance: Must have romanced Solas.
- The Hidden God: Vowed to save Solas from himself.
From here, continue playing the Veilguard campaign as you see fit. Eventually, though, your character, Rook, will have a chance meeting with the Inquisitor. The Inquisitor is willing to reunite with Solas
During one of your meetings with the Inquisitor, the subject of her relationship with Solas will be brought up. There are four options: - Either "you deserve happiness" or "you were good for him" should be selected, as these make the Inquisitor willing to reunite with Solas.
- The "he's not good for you" and "he wouldn't want that for you" replies must be avoided completely.
Getting Mythal's Essence
If you truly wish to save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, then you need to obtain Mythal's Essence which, naturally, comes from Mythal (or rather a fragment of the goddess). This is part of a quest called Regrets of the Dread Wolf, where you need to obtain several wolf statuettes in the Crossroads. After acquiring all statuettes and watching their respective cutscenes, you'll have a chat with Morrigan, who opens a pathway that leads to a fragment of Mythal. You then need to convince her that you're worthy via dialogue. Otherwise, you'd have to fight her dragon form, and we definitely don't want that to happen. You can learn about all the steps and details in our Regrets of the Dread Wolf guide. Note: There's also another Crossroads quest called Heart of Corruption. We're unable to confirm if this is related to the true ending, but we completed it nonetheless. Use Mythal's Essence when confronting Solas
Proceed further into the campaign until you reach the finale. After defeating the final boss, you'll have to make a crucial decision. The "fight" and "trick" options will be there by default. However, if you managed to complete the above requirements, a third option will appear under the "More" tab. Respond with: "You don't have to do this." This option causes Rook to show Mythal's Essence to Solas, convincing him to sacrifice himself for the greater good. Getting the best ending for Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard
A cutscene will trigger where several characters, including the Inquisitor, Morrigan, and even the spirit of Mythal, show up. - If the Inquisitor and Solas never got together, then Solas will leave on his own, willingly imprisoning himself in the Fade for all eternity.
- If the Inquisitor romanced Solas and wants to be reunited with him, then the two will kiss. The couple will then disappear into the Fade. Neither the Veil, nor their love, will be torn apart.
That does it for our guide on how to save Solas in Dragon Age: The Veilguard. True, the Dread Wolf is not walking among the common folk or heading out on adventures. At the very least, he and the Inquisitor are finally together. For all the other details regarding the game's conclusion, you can check our finale and endings guide.
