Dragon’s Dogma 2 – All Maister Locations And Ultimate Skills

Dragon's Dogma 2 allows you to switch between different vocations or classes. While you can level up to gain new skills, there are ultimate abilities that you can unlock only once you gain the approval of certain peerless combatants. Here's our guide on where to find all Maisters in Dragon's Dogma 2.

All ultimate abilities and vocation Maisters in Dragon's Dogma 2

There are 12 ultimate abilities that you can learn from Maisters in Dragon's Dogma 2. These can truly change the way you play a class, maybe due to the devastating damage that they deal or additional functions they present. Before we discuss each Dragon's Dogma 2 Maister and skill in detail, don't forget that some classes still need to be unlocked as you progress through the campaign. You can learn more in our unlockable vocations guide. Likewise, we have a best vocations/class tier list guide to help you figure out which options are ideal for the campaign.

Note: There's no vocation level required to equip these legendary skills. As such, it's possible to switch to another class and use its ultimate technique, provided that you've already acquired it.

Fighter: Riotous Fury

Maister: Lennart

Location: Melve - Although you visit Melve very early in the story, the quest that you need to be on the lookout for is called Readvent of Calamity. It becomes available as you're completing main quests in Vernworth and prior to starting the arc in Bakbattahl. The goal is to return to Melve to repel a dragon attack. Eventually, you'll help out Ulrika, much to Lennart's relief. He'll then give you a scroll for the Fighter class. You can learn more about these objectives in our Readvent of Calamity/Ulrika romance guide.

Ultimate ability: Riotous Fury - Rains a flurry of powerful blows on the target, dealing massive damage at great cost to stamina. Leaves the user vulnerable if the first strike misses.

Tip: Riotous Fury is a fairly decent ultimate Maister teaching in Dragon's Dogma 2. The only downside is that it hits just one target at a time, and your first attack has to connect.

Archer: Heavenly Shot

Maister: Taliesin

Location: Sacred Arbor - You'll visit the home of the Elves as part of a quest chain involving Glyndwr, which then introduces you to his father Taliesin. After rescuing Taliesin's daughter from the clutches of an Ogre, he'll be thankful for all your help, granting you this ability in return. You can learn more in our Elves/Sacred Arbor guide.

Ultimate ability: Heavenly Shot - Fires an almighty arrow that consumes all your stamina. The arrow's potency is determined by the remaining stamina when it is loosed.

Tip: We were somewhat disappointed whenever we used Heavenly Arrow. Even if we fully drained our stamina and hit a weak spot, the damage paled in comparison to other abilities.

Thief: Blades of the Pyre

Maister: Flaude the Fraud

Location: Nameless Village - Upon reaching the manor in the settlement, Flaude will tell you that he's the Thief-Maister and that you're worthy of receiving his ultimate technique. He's actually a fraud. In any case, you can learn more in our Nameless Village guide.

Ultimate ability: Blades of the Pyre - Brings daggers together to ignite, wreathing them in a blazing inferno so potent that the user cannot escape from being burned.

Tip: We're guessing this is a joke or meme skill. That's because Blades of the Pyre causes a huge explosion that damages both the enemy and your character, making it an extremely risky move. If you're recruiting Thief pawns, make sure they don't have this equipped or they'll happily self-combust whenever they're in combat.

Thief: Formless Feint

Maister: Srail

Location: Nameless Village - Head down the tunnels below the manor and get past the obstacle course/traps. You'll stumble upon the Thieves Guild hideout. Srail will be impressed, and he'll give you his scroll. You can learn more in our Nameless Village guide.

Ultimate ability: Formless Feint - Accelerates the user's reactions to an ungodly degree, enabling them to evade all manner of attacks from hostile targets; consumes stamina while active.

Tip: Formless Feint is one of the reasons why we feel that the Thief is the best starting vocation in the game. It's basically an auto-dodge that has you avoiding all forms of damage while it's active, and it lasts for several seconds as long as you have enough stamina remaining. In fact, you can just spam Twin Fangs as you "Shadowstep" and slash your way to victory.

Mage: Celestial Paean

Maister: Eini

Location: Eini's Home - This small abode is due north of Melve. You need to acquire five tomes for Eini's granddaughter Trysha. We discuss this further in our Spellbound guide.

Ultimate ability: Celestial Paean - Summons a wave of holy light that hastens stamina recovery and the speed of allies who touch it, while reducing damage taken. Consumes all of the caster's stamina and knocks them off their feet.

Tip: Celestial Paean is one of the best abilities from Maisters in Dragon's Dogma 2. Once the buff affects a character, they can practically spam attacks without worrying about stamina. Even other ultimates that quickly drain stamina can be recast due to the faster regeneration. The damage reduction buff is just icing on the cake.

Sorcerer: Meteoron

Maister: Trysha

Location: Eini's Home - Once you give the five grimoires to Trysha, she'll lose control and you have to subdue her. After she has recovered, she'll hand you this scroll. We discuss this further in our Spellbound guide.

Ultimate ability: Summons a meteor shower, dealing immense damage to targets across a broad range. Prevents movement while incanting and is unaffected by Quickspell. Most effective when cast in a wide-open space.

Tip: Meteoron causes several chunks of rock to hurl down from space, crashing down on your foes. The area-of-effect (AoE) is large enough that you're likely to decimate entire groups of hostiles.

Sorcerer: Maelstrom

Maister: Myrddin

Location: Checkpoint Rest Town - Myrddin also wants the same grimoires as Trysha. Thankfully, there's a way to obtain both sets of rewards. We discuss this further in our Sorcerer's Appraisal guide.

Ultimate ability: Maelstrom - Conjures a whirlwind to wreak havoc upon those caught in its path. Prevents movement while incanting and is unaffected by Quickspell. Most effective when cast in a cramped space.

Tip: The tooltip is correct in that Maelstrom is great in enclosed spaces. Although the casting time is agonizingly slow, the tornado that it creates is enough to shred several enemies within its AoE radius.

Warrior: Arc of Might

Maister: Beren

Location: Beren's Childhood Home - You'll meet Beren initially in the Borderwatch Outpost training area, as well as the Moonglow Garden shortly thereafter. Sadly, certain incidents will give him no recourse but to return to his childhood home, which is just south of Checkpoint Rest Town. You can learn more in our Claw Them Into Shape/Beren's Final Test guide.

Ultimate ability: Arc of Might - Channels all of the user's strength into an almighty blow; consumes all of the user's stamina when activated.

Tip: Arc of Might is a move where the Warrior does two broad sweeps that deal tremendous damage. There's nothing fancy about it, but it is effective.

Trickster: Dragon's Delusion

Maister: Luz

Location: Reverent Shrine - Halfway between Checkpoint Rest Town and Bakbattahl, there's a shrine where the oracle Luz resides. If you talk to her ghostly form, you'll acquire the Trickster vocation. However, if you climb the ladder along the left-hand side of the structure and go to the front of the rooftop, you'll see her physical form. Speak with her once more to obtain the ultimate technique for the class.

Ultimate ability: Dragon's Delusion - Creates an illusory dragon that cannot directly deal damage, but instills hostile targets with fear and even causes them to trip or flee.

Tip: Why even summon a dragon that doesn't attack? If the Trickster's basic kit was already underwhelming, then its legendary skill will likely disappoint you even more.

Mystic Spearhand: Wild Furie

Maister: Sigurd

Location: Harve Village - You can meet Sigurd in two locations:

    • Melve - During the Readvent of Calamity quest.
    • Dragonsbreath Tower - Further southeast of Bakbattahl.

Talking to Sigurd in either of these locations unlocks the Mystic Spearhand vocation. Later, you can visit his house in Harve Village, where he'll grant you his ultimate technique.

Ultimate ability: Wild Furie - Unleashes a flurry of slashes and magical attacks. Additional button presses continue the onslaught by consuming stamina.

Tip: Sadly, Wild Furie just isn't that good. Although you can do chain attacks that hit multiple opponents, each hit doesn't deal a lot of damage. In fact, we've found that the Thief's Skull Splitter had higher DPS, and that hardly drains stamina.

Magick Archer: Martyr's Bolt

Maister: Cliodhna

Location: Windwalker's Home and Volcanic Island Camp (Hot Springs) - You need to complete a quest called Put a Spring in Thy Step. It involves helping Cliodhna's husband, Gautstafr, which will make her trust you. You can learn more in our Magick-Archer/Put a Spring in Thy Step quest guide.

Ultimate ability: Martyr's Bolt - Fires the ultimate magical bolt in exchange for a temporary decrease to the user's maximum health. The reduced amount determines the bolt's potency. The loss gauge accumulates while charging.

Tip: Martyr's Bolt can easily one-shot some bosses, making it one of the best Dragon's Dogma 2 Maister skills. The ability itself lowers your maximum HP temporarily, and it's even possible for your character to die from it while it's being charged. But once you shoot, countless projectiles will swarm over your targets, dealing an obscene amount of damage within a short span of time. It's risky due to the loss mechanic, but it's definitely worth using against tougher monsters.

Warfarer: Rearmament

Maister: Lamond

Location: Volcanic Island Camp (Hot Springs) - In the same place where you complete Put a Spring in Thy Step, you'll meet a fella named Lamond. Once you give him three Newt Liqueur, the Warfarer class will be unlocked. Speak with him again and you'll also receive an ability. You can learn more in our Warfarer/Newt Liqueur guide.

Ultimate ability: Rearmament - Technically, this isn't an ultimate/legendary/game-changing ability at all. The Warfarer's quirk is that it can equip all types of weapons and armors, as well as skills (except for class ultimates). The Rearmament ability is the mechanic that allows you to swap between weapons, essentially letting you use a vocation's attacks/spells.

These are all the Maister's Teachings in Dragon's Dogma 2. Now that you have these ultimate skills at your disposal, it's time to lay waste to the Arisen's foes. Lastly, don't forget to take a look at our best vocations/class tier list article to learn about the top options for the campaign.
