Square Enix confirms prequel will be released exclusively on PlayStation 3 next year in North America.
Square Enix announced today that role-playing game Drakengard 3 will be released exclusively on PlayStation 3 in 2014 in North America. Its arrival will mark the first new installment in seven years, following Drakengard 2 for the PlayStation 2 in 2006.
Drakengard 3 is a prequel to the original Drakengard and will be released in Japan later this month. Nier composer Keiichi Okabe created the music for Drakengard 3.
Drakengard 3 is an action game that mixes ground-based combat and air combat using dragons. Players control two sisters named Zero and One who wield the power of the ancient Utautai goddesses.
The former wishes to kill the remaining Utautai for reasons unknown, while the latter wants to bring peace and stability to the world.
In Japan, a special 10th anniversary Drakengard 3 box set will include a book called Drakengard: World Inside, as well as a music CD and a Blu-ray disc titled Drakengard History Films. It is not clear if this bundle will be offered in North America.
