Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney Joins Sony’s Madame Web

Actor Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, The White Lotus) is joining the cast of Sony's upcoming Madame Web project in an undisclosed role. Deadline, citing unnamed sources, was the first to report this development. Sweeney also posted a screenshot of the Deadline article onto her Instagram account, which you can see below.

Sweeney will join Dakota Johnson (The Peanut Butter Falcon, The Social Network), who in early February was reportedly cast in Madame Web's titular role. Clarkson (Succession, Dexter) as director and Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Morbius) as writers--it's still unclear whether Madame Web will ultimately be a film, series, or "something else" as suggested more recently.

The project shifting from a movie to another format isn't a total surprise, given the character's historical status as a side character in the Marvel Universe. Her mutant abilities make her a strong ally for Peter Parker, though she never actually fights villains herself for obvious reasons.
