Actor Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria, The White Lotus) is joining the cast of Sony's upcoming Madame Web project in an undisclosed role. Deadline, citing unnamed sources, was the first to report this development. Sweeney also posted a screenshot of the Deadline article onto her Instagram account, which you can see below. Sweeney will join Dakota Johnson (The Peanut Butter Falcon, The Social Network), who in early February was reportedly cast in Madame Web's titular role. Although a series of names are gathering around the project--including S.J. Clarkson (Succession, Dexter) as director and Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Morbius) as writers--it's still unclear whether Madame Web will ultimately be a film, series, or "something else" as suggested more recently. The project shifting from a movie to another format isn't a total surprise, given the character's historical status as a side character in the Marvel Universe. In Marvel Comics, Madame Web is an elderly, telepathic, precognitive mutant confined to a hospital bed surrounded by life support machines that resemble a spider web.
