I have been pushing Funko to make a Funko Town piece of Avengers Tower for what seems like years. I have wanted one since I got my Funko Town piece Hall of Justice. I kept suggesting the Avengers Tower on their suggestion page, on Facebook, etc because the Hall of Justice piece was so much fun. I ordered an Avengers Tower through my local comic shop as soon as it was advertised. It finally came in last week. Over the weekend (OK, that night) I opened it. I have never been so disappointed with a Funko product.
Here it is. It looks pretty good in the box. And I know a lot of collectors keep everything in the box. But not me. I want to display my stuff proudly on a shelf.
Here it is out of the shelf. Do you begin to see the problem? It’s the base. It is plain white. Someone didn’t bother to make the base look interesting. It’s just white. In fact I had to pull the item out of my light box to show you the base because it blended into the white background.
The other problem is that Iron Man is glued to the base. So you can make a scene around the base, but if you try to put other Funko pops on the base it looks oddly crowded. The scene feels squished.
Now you may think I am being harsh, but there is a better way. I know it and Funko knows it, because they did it before.
Here is the Hall of Justice. Detailed base. Separate figure. With room for friends.
Maybe the best comparison is to put both Funko Town products side by side.
And here they are with an extra Funko Pop added.
Which takes us back to the beginning. Funko, I am disappointed. Someone didn’t bother to detail the base. Someone decided to glue Iron Man in one spot so he cannot be moved around (or out) of the display. Funko, this product is not fun. I wish this had been done better. As it is, I feel I am owed a refund.
