GameStop Throwing Destiny Midnight Launch Parties Across the US

To mark the release of Destiny next week, retailer GameStop is opening thousands of US stores--around 4,100 in all--for midnight launch events. On the evening of September 8, you can visit one of the stores to take part in the revelry, which culminates with the game going on sale at midnight.

To help you pass the time, GameStop's Destiny midnight launch parties will include various activities, including contests and performances by local bands, and you can also enjoy food trucks.

In a statement, GameStop executive Bob Puzon reiterated that Destiny is the retailer's most preordered new IP in history, and said the game "is going to deliver a tremendous gaming experience."

If you don't feel like driving out to a GameStop store, you can also buy Destiny digitally through the Xbox Marketplace or PlayStation Store. And because both platforms now support pre-loading, you can download the game right now and start playing right away, come launch.

Destiny launches September 9 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Earlier today, Activision released a rather-excellent live-action trailer for the game (above) that uses Led Zeppelin's famous tune, "Immigrant Song." If you're into football and plan on watching the NFL season opener tonight, you'll see a 90-second version of the ad sometime during the game, which starts at 8:30 PM EDT on NBC.
