Upcoming film will tell the life story of Lucas Ordonez, a professional racer who began his career playing Gran Turismo.
The upcoming Gran Turismo movie from the producers of The Social Network will tell the life story of Lucas Ordonez, a professional racer who began his career playing Gran Turismo.
Polyphony Digital CEO Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed the details with Destructoid at Gamescom.
He said the movie has been pitched for the last seven years, though all offers were turned down until Michael de Luca and Dana Brunetti recently won him over with their script.
Yamauchi said the Gran Turismo film will open with a mother concerned that her son is spending too much time playing video games. The film will feature themes of "growth and maturity" as Ordonez becomes a racing champion.
No director for the Gran Turismo film has been named, nor have casting details or a release date been released.
Separately, Yamauchi said during a Gamescom panel this week (attended by Joystiq) that if Gran Turismo 6 does come to the PlayStation 4, it could evolve into Gran Turismo 7.
During the panel, Yamauchi reiterated that he is thinking about a PS4 version of the racing game, but said it could take "some time" to arrive
Gran Turismo 6 launches December 6 for the PlayStation 3.
