World records group claims open-world game is best-selling title over 24-hour period of all time, driving $815.7 million; Take-Two says it can't verify accuracy of report
Grand Theft Auto V
sold 11.21 million copies during its first 24 hours on sale last month, driving $815.7 million in revenue, according to a release today from Guinness World Records.
A Guinness World Records representative told GameSpot that, "Our records team worked directly with Rockstar Games on obtaining the figures."
Meanwhile, a Take-Two Interactive representative said the company had no hand in the data released today by Guinness.
"The numbers in their announcement didn't come from our company," a representative told GameSpot. "We can't verify its accuracy and we haven't commented on GTA V's performance beyond the two releases that we issued."
