How To Preload Super Smash Bros. For Wii U

Ahead of the release of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U's release on November 21, Nintendo today published a set of instructions that explain how you can pre-load the game to play exactly at midnight. While the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 already support pre-loading, this is new territory for the Wii U, as Super Smash Bros. is the first title to support the feature on the system.

There are a few ways to go about pre-buying and pre-loading Super Smash Bros. on Wii U. These are listed below. Of note, pre-loading support is coming to Nintendo 3DS in 2015.

  • Pre-purchase From Nintendo.com - Nintendo will send you a download code within 72 hours of the game's release; you can then redeem the code online or manually through your Wii U to pre-load the game. Then at launch, you'll only need to install a "small game update" to start playing.
  • Pre-purchase Directly From The eShop On Wii U - Mostly self-explanatory. Buy the game on your Wii U and pre-load it right away.
  • Buy Download Code from Retailers - You can also buy a download code from retailers like GameStop and then enter this code on Wii U to begin the pre-load process.

If you'd prefer a physical copy of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, Nintendo of course will sell those, too.

Nintendo has high hopes for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. The game has set a new preorder record for Wii U, outpacing popular racing game Mario Kart 8. According to Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, the mascot fighting game could have a dramatic effect on Wii U sales.
